Hell Bailiff is a roguelike deckbuilder set in the Chinese underworld. It blends the randomness and permadeath of roguelikes with the dynamic growth of deckbuilding. You play as an underworld agent, handling various duties, using cards to pacify the resentment of vengeful spirits.
Unlike traditional card games, you don't simply fight. Every strike you make absorbs the enemy's resentment, but that same resentment also eats away at your own mind. Suppress your foes while mastering yourself, or risk losing your soul forever.
In hell, failure means eternal damnation. Once a spirit defeats you, everything starts over.
About This Game
Resentment Is the True Protagonist
Most deckbuilders are about reducing an enemy's health to zero.
This one isn't.
Both you and the wraiths possess Resentment, each with its own limit.
Your goal is to drain the enemy's Resentment. Empty it completely, and you win.
But every point you absorb is transferred to yourself.
Absorb too much and your own Resentment reaches its limit—you lose.
The wraiths are not passive, either. Their Resentment continues to grow on its own.
If they exceed their limit before you can contain them, you lose as well.
This is not a simple battle of attack and defense.
It is a struggle of control, where Resentment constantly shifts between hunter and hunted.

Your primary source of offense and execution.
Guard
Gain Soulguard.
Protect yourself from danger.
Turn defense into a resource for future turns.
Renewal
Reduce your own Resentment.
Restore balance.
Create room for more Resentment.
Providence
Bend the rules.
Disrupt expectations.
Create possibilities that would otherwise be impossible.
A Unique Combo System
Resentment Flow :Harness the Flow of Resentment
Plan your card sequence carefully and guide the flow of Resentment from one card to the next.
As momentum builds, later cards become increasingly powerful.
Sometimes, the order itself is the source of power.
Soulbinding: Twin Seal Resonance
Cast Soul Seals of the same rank in succession to perform a Soulbinding Ritual.
Weaken hostile wraiths. Protect yourself from danger.
Create precious breathing room when everything is on the verge of collapse.
Resonance: One card can serve multiple purposes.
A card may contribute to your Resentment chain.
The same card may also complete a Soulbinding Ritual.
Different systems intertwine and reinforce one another.
A well-planned turn can trigger several layers of resonance at once.
Every Wraith Has a Mind of Its Own
The wraiths are more than enemies with larger numbers.
They react to the choices you make.
They learn from the patterns you rely on.
Some wraiths expose weaknesses when you build momentum through Resentment Flow.
Others find opportunities to recover when you perform Soulbinding.
Some relentlessly pressure your Soulguard.
Others exploit greed, turning uncontrolled Resentment against you.
No single build can answer every threat.
No strategy will carry you through every run.
Study their Obsessions.
Understand their weaknesses.
Then discover your own path to purification.
