Argosy
Begin with a single ship and a handful of coin. Buy low, sail far, sell high — then turn profit into power. Build trade routes, factories, and fleets across a living economy, outwit rival merchants, and rise from humble trader to master of the seas.
Set sail with a single ship and a small purse, and build a trading empire that
spans the seas. Argosy is a deep trading and economy simulation set in the
harbor cities of a late-medieval merchant league, where prices rise and fall
with real supply and demand, and the largest fortunes belong to the merchant
who reads the market best.
In Argosy you begin as an unknown shopkeeper and work your way up: filling your
hold where goods are cheap, selling them where they are scarce, building a fleet
to carry more, and climbing the ranks of merchant society until you sit on the
council and govern the cities you once traded in. Play alone against rival AI
merchants, or take the same living economy online and compete against other
players.
Master a Living Economy
No price is fixed. Every city produces some goods, consumes others, and runs
short when supply dries up, and the market responds to every trade, including
your own.
Trade 20 goods across cities linked by real supply and demand.
Flood a market to crash a price, or buy a good up to corner it and set your own rate.
Spot a shortage before your rivals do and turn one city's famine into your fortune.
Build factories and refine raw timber, hemp and iron into finished goods worth far more.
Build a Fleet and Automate Your Trade
Grow from one vessel into a fleet, then put it to work without steering every
voyage by hand.
Buy, build and crew a range of historical sailing ships, from nimble coastal traders to heavy ocean-going haulers.
Assign captains who grow more skilled the longer they sail.
Set automated trade routes and let your captains run them while you plan your next venture.
Establish warehouses and production in the cities that matter most to your network.
Rise Through the Ranks
Coin opens doors, but it is not the whole game. Earn the trust of every class of
citizen and climb from humble shopkeeper to the heights of civic power.
Advance through a career of merchant ranks, from shopkeeper and trader to councillor and lord mayor.
Stand for election, set tax rates and shape the cities you trade in.
Win citizens over by keeping them supplied, then turn that standing into political weight against your rivals.
Command Your Ships in Battle
The sea belongs to no one, and not every sail on the horizon comes in peace.
Fight tactical naval battles, maneuvering to land your broadsides while keeping your hull out of the enemy's line of fire.
Escort your convoys, drive off pirates, and board enemy ships to take them and their cargo.
Turn pirate yourself and prey on the trade lanes, if you can survive the hunt that follows.
Outwit Rival Merchants
You share the world with ambitious AI merchants who trade, build and scheme by
the same rules you do, with no shortcuts and no handicaps. The routes they run
and the towns they supply shape the very economy you are trying to control.
Build and Share Your Own Maps
Argosy includes a full map editor, so the world you trade in can be one you made
yourself.
Start from a blank sea or import an image to trace, turning a sketch or a real coastline into a playable chart.
Place and define your own cities and rivers, deciding what each port produces, needs and trades.
Decorate the world with built-in scenery, or import your own decorations for a style that is entirely yours.
Export your finished maps and share them with other players.
Play any custom map in single-player or online, exactly like the built-in world.
Play Solo or Online
Build your empire alone against the AI, or take it online and compete head to
head with other merchants in one shared, living economy.
