Real-time strategy on a wild frontier: found a settlement, grow it into a fortified town and hold your ground in forests, marshes, steppes and deserts against rival factions, the dangers of the night and the weather.

Lead the Suebi, the Romans or the Kushites in Trails of Suebia: found a settlement, grow it into a fortified town and hold your ground against rival factions, alone or with friends.

Real-time strategy as you know it

Gather wood, food, stone and gold, build up your town, research upgrades and raise an army of infantry, archers, cavalry and siege engines. Control groups, rally points and hotkeys work the way you expect from the genre, on keyboard and mouse.

A world that plays differently every time

Every map is generated fresh: dense forest, river meadows, marshland, open steppe, desert, frozen marches and island coasts. Each biome brings its own terrain, weather and challenges – the Suebi are at home in deep forest, the Kushites on open ground, and sandstorms sweep across the steppe. Day turns to night as you play: after dark, wolves and raiders hunt your villagers, and dynamic weather changes the whole world.

Factions with their own character

Every faction plays differently. The Suebi build in timber and thatch, the Kushites in mudbrick, the Romans in canvas over stone, and each comes with its own strengths and weaknesses. Their shrines and legends differ too: honour them, and mighty mythical creatures take the field.

Hold the walls

Raise palisades with a walkway and send your warriors up. Towers, gates, stake lines, watch posts and ballista towers strengthen your defences. Archers on the walls shoot farther, and when the enemy attacks, the fight happens right on top of them.

What lies in the barrows

Below ground, the strategy game becomes a dungeon crawl. Ancient barrows lie scattered across the map: send a party down, fight through the dark to the burial chamber and bring the loot back to the surface. Those who make it out return as veterans.

Ways to play

Learn the basics in the guided tutorial, fight skirmishes against computer opponents on generated maps, play The March, a series of linked matches, or take on your friends in multiplayer.
