Antiquity Is Yours

Rome, Carthage, the Seleucid and Ptolemaic kingdoms, Celts, Germanic tribes, Parthia, and Han China: Age of Mankind brings the known world of Antiquity to life in real time, from Britannia to China. Lead a great empire or a small tribe and rewrite history from 509 BC to the fall of the Western Roman Empire in AD 476.

Four Starting Points

Free Play

A largely unexplored world. Up to 1,200 tribes found settlements, claim free land, and shape the empires of the future.

509 BC – The Young Republic

Rome is just one city among many. In the east, the Persian Empire rules the world from the Nile to the Indus, the great kingdoms of India vie for dominance, and in China the order of the Zhou crumbles into warring states. Whose rise begins here?

264 BC – The Punic Wars

Rome and Carthage struggle for Sicily. In the east, the heirs of Alexander divide the world between them, the Maurya Empire rules India, and in China, Qin arms itself to unite the warring states.

117 AD – The World Empires

Rome at its height under Trajan, Parthia, the Kushan Empire, and Han China: great powers linked by the Silk Road. Rule one of them and hold together an empire built over generations, or challenge them as a minor power.

A Living World

You are not alone. Hundreds of peoples settle, expand, trade, research, forge alliances, and wage wars without your involvement. Borders shift, new kingdoms emerge, and old powers collapse.

What happens beyond your borders remains hidden until scouts uncover new information.

War Without Certainty

No ruler knows the outcome of a battle with certainty.

Battles last several days. Troop strength, morale, terrain, commanders, and intelligence all influence the result. Before an attack, you receive only an estimate of your chances. The more your scouts know about the enemy, the more accurate that estimate becomes.

Call in reinforcements, retreat when necessary, and study detailed battle reports to learn from victory and defeat.

Build Your Realm

Settle new lands, develop your provinces, and expand your sphere of influence. Manage your treasury, military strength, cohesion, prestige, and influence as your realm grows.

Expansion comes at a price. Grow too fast or wage too many wars, and unrest, rebellions, and secessions may threaten your empire.

Research Through Four Ages

Lead your people through the four ages of Antiquity:

  • City-States and Republics

  • Rise of the Great Empires

  • Imperial Age

  • Late Antiquity

Research more than 300 technologies and unlock new military, economic, and governmental opportunities.

Diplomacy and Trade

Send gifts, sign non-aggression pacts and trade agreements, demand tribute, or unite multiple tribes into a single people.

Trade routes on land and sea connect the known world, while other nations pursue their own ambitions and rivalries.
