Explore concept art and a decade of Jiang Chang’s drawings. Black-and-white sketches trace his journey from childhood dreams through pain and escape toward reconciliation, renewal, and a sense of peace.
This DLC accompanies Attack of J with concept art, sketches that inspired the game, and drawings created by the game's author, Jiang Chang, over a decade.
As a child, Jiang Chang found beauty in drawing. It was something to aspire to and pursue. He dreamed of studying art, entering a leading art school, and beginning a life devoted to art.
After a profound upheaval in his family, drawing changed—or perhaps Jiang Chang did. It was no longer so simple or pure, but a means of relief, escape, and release. Through his brush, he poured onto paper the feelings he could not put into words.
Beauty and pain shape the lives of many artists. But Jiang Chang never became an artist. He took another path, fell into an abyss, and then saved himself.
Fighting darkness, coming to terms with pain, making peace with the past. Forgiving, forgetting, escaping, enduring, struggling, agonizing, growing numb, saving oneself… Beneath the vast night sky, within the book of life, how does one find redemption?
Jiang Chang hurt those who loved him with his own thorns. Only long after they had gone did he truly understand: those who fail to cherish happiness cannot expect happiness to cherish them.
Then came breaking down, embracing, and reshaping—a new beginning.
In this long battle, Jiang Chang neither lost nor won. He simply left the battlefield and found peace.
“I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith.” — 2 Timothy
