Be the trucker India runs on. Drive a painted truck down the Grand Trunk Road and Delhi's expressways, on nearly 1,800 km of road built from the real map. Beat the deadline, mind your diesel and your sleep, and stop at a dhaba for chai.

The real Indian highway, and the life of the trucker who drives it.

Evening at a loading yard on the edge of Delhi. Your truck is painted the way Indian trucks have always been painted, the sacks are stacked above the side walls, and the mandi wants the load today. Between you and it: the traffic, the old highway, the new expressway, and a dhaba with its lights on.

Real roads, real places

Every road is built from real map data of Delhi-NCR, across Delhi, Haryana and western Uttar Pradesh: from NH44 to the Delhi–Meerut Expressway and the old highways that run beside them. Interchanges are rebuilt at true scale, and the open road between towns is shortened so a long haul fits into an evening. Direction boards in Hindi and English give real distances to real places, and the GPS guides you along the real network, lane by lane.

A truck with a life inside it

A classic cowl truck covered in truck art: the ALL INDIA PERMIT board, Hindi slogans and HORN OK PLEASE across the tailgate. Inside, a shrine on the dash, marigolds, nimbu-mirchi swinging with every bump, and a berth behind the seats. The gauges, air brakes, wipers and mirrors all work. Drive it from the cab or from outside.

Traffic that talks back

Drivers honk to pass, flash their high beams and swing through gaps in the median. Signals count down and switch to flashing amber after eleven at night, and speed breakers wait outside villages and schools. Learn its rules and the road opens up.

The work

Pick loads from the job board by pay per km, weight or deadline: grain sacks stacked above the walls, sacks under a roped tarp, cartons, crates under a net, LPG cylinders. The weight sits on the chassis, so a loaded truck squats, leans and needs longer to stop. Arrive late and the pay is halved. Damage costs you power, grip or braking until the garage fixes it, and diesel, repairs and chai all come out of your balance.

The rhythm of the road

Fatigue builds as you drive, faster in the afternoon heat and the small hours. Stop at a dhaba, the roadside eatery every trucker knows, for chai, a charpai for an hour or a room for the night, and the clock keeps running. Night is properly dark: open country, lit villages, and reflectors flaring in your headlights.

In development

Indian Truck Simulator is made by IronFort Studios, an indie studio in India. It is single-player, needs no internet, and has no ads and no energy timers. Coming before release: buses, autos, tractors and two-wheelers in traffic, truck decoration, and steering wheel and gamepad support. Wishlist it to hear when the demo is ready.
