A pixel-art loot roguelike. Start every run with junk gear, buy and merge pieces into rarer ones, stack a set until the numbers get silly, then fight thirty floors down to the dragon at the bottom. Everyone who dies leaves their gold to his hoard.

Gold Below is a turn-based loot roguelike in pixel art. Each run starts with junk gear and a little gold. You buy pieces, merge two of the same into a rarer one, and stack one set until the numbers get silly. Then something twenty floors down hits harder than you planned for.

The descent

Thirty floors in three depths: the Gilt Cellars, the Drowned Reliquary and the Hoard Heart. After each floor there's a room, usually a merchant, sometimes a chest, a shrine or a forge. One chest in four has teeth. A boss waits at the end of each depth: one of three at floor 10, one of three at floor 20, and Avarax, the dragon, at the bottom.

How a fight works

Every enemy shows what it will do on its next turn. Between turns you can shop, swap gear and merge. Then you ATTACK, GUARD or cast your hero's skill. When attacking would get you killed and guarding wouldn't, GUARD lights up gold. Auto plays the easy turns for you and hands control back when things get dangerous.

Loot

  • 22 gear sets, each with bonuses at 2, 3 and 5 pieces, and 20 combos between pairs of sets

  • 7 rarities, from Common up to Gilded, and the only way to Gilded is merging two Mythics

  • Etchings you can move from one piece to another

  • Seven heroes, each with their own skill and passive

The Dragon's Hoard

Every player who dies leaves their gold to the dragon at the bottom, in one pile that grows on everyone's title screen. Once a month, the first player to win a Season Descent takes all of it.

Every day

The Daily Descent gives everyone the same dungeon for a day, with a board to see how far the others got. Past the last boss there's endless mode and the Greed ladder.

Runs save as you play. The game works offline; the Dragon's Hoard, the Daily board and Season Descents need a connection.
