Sports Founder is a turn-based strategy game where you invent a sport and grow it from a backyard game into a global obsession. Write the rules, spread it around the world, run the flagship league and outmaneuver the established sports, who won't give up their fans without a fight.
Basketball started with a peach basket at a YMCA in 1891. In Sports Founder, you build your own sport from the ground up and see if you can take it from a backyard game to a global obsession.
Sports Founder is a turn-based strategy game about inventing a sport and growing it into the most popular sport in the world. You write the rules, build the sporting culture, manage the flagship league, establish a World Championship, and make decisions on expansion with the ultimate goal of having the most fans of any sport.
Invent Your Sport
It all starts simply enough with the defining of rules. Is your game played indoors or outdoors? On grass or ice? Is there contact? Does scoring happen often, like basketball, or rarely, like soccer? Do you play games, fixtures, matches, contests? How long is each game? Did it start as a working-class sport in a factory yard or as a blue-blooded country club pastime?
These decisions each inform your game’s traits and its intrinsic appeal to different audiences.
Grow It Around the World
The game world is comprised of 213 real-world countries, built with real population, income, climate and language data. And they are all playable.
Casual fandom crosses neighboring borders, grows in countries with shared languages, and can be broadcast globally. Lifelong fans are built through the development of strong domestic leagues and competitions. Watch your sport spread across a global heat map and see it reach all corners of the world.
Want to jump straight into the American market and compete with sports giants or do you want to try and grow a small game from Tuvalu into a worldwide phenomenon? These are the range of choices.
Run a Flagship League
As your sport's founder, you're also commissioner of its flagship league. It starts as a handful of amateur clubs in your home country and you can build it into an elite league that the whole world watches. Every season brings champions, dynasties, rivalries and new traditions. You sign TV and sponsorship deals, can invest money in new venues and sell their naming rights, push top players as your league’s star attractions and more.
A Living Sports Culture
The culture of your sport lives beyond your control and serves as a constant source of unique content. Rivalries form and fade, fans develop rituals around their teams, venues become famous, chants are born, losing teams become “cursed,” and undefeated champions are remembered forever.
But the fans that make this culture happen also have standards. Change your sports rules to appeal to a sponsor or name a legendary venue after a major corporation, and they are liable to turn on you.
The Established Sports Fight Back
The big boys don’t take your global expansion lying down. The rival sports already hold real-world fanbases and they do their best to defend them. The closer you get to the top spot, the harder they push back by locking you out of sponsorships and broadcast deals, captivating the world with their own championships, and even some dirty tricks.
Becoming the world's #1 sport is one thing. Holding the top spot long enough to win is another.
Sporting History Worth Reading
Every season goes into the record books. Your sport builds a Hall of Fame, an almanac of records and firsts, a World Championship of its own, and a legacy. When you're ready to step away, retire and look back at how it all happened.
