A pixel-art action roguelite. Fight through cellars, forests and a lava mine, beat the bosses, and take the gear you find to the forge. Each upgrade gets riskier, and pushing for +10 can break the item for good.

GEARSMITH is a pixel-art action roguelite. Each run starts at camp: pick up a weapon, then fight through the cellars, the forest and the lava mine. Every area ends with a boss.

Combat

  • Three-hit combos, charged attacks, skills and dodges. Enemies show a warning before they strike. Attack while it is red to parry, dodge while it is red for a perfect dodge.
  • Eight weapon lines: blade, dagger, staff, whip, furnace nozzle, hammer, bow and spirit vessel. Each weapon has three move slots (heavy, finisher, skill), with three moves to choose from in each slot.
  • A hidden weapon waits deep in the cellars.

Gear and the forge

  • Gear drops on the ground. Walk over to compare it before you pick it up.
  • Upgrade gear at the forge. Higher levels are less likely to succeed, failures can drop a level, and a failed push to +10 can break the item. At +3, +5, +7 and +10 the item evolves, and you choose one of three directions.
  • Gear has rune sockets. Runes change what your attacks do: elements, triggers, damage multipliers and shapes. Hit an enemy with two elements to set off a reaction.
  • Each shop has a Fate Forge where you can gamble gold and spare gear.

The world

  • Paper, cloth, wood and trees catch fire and spread it. Cellar brick walls can be blown open, and some hide secret rooms.
  • Shallow water conducts lightning. Deep water blocks movement but not projectiles.
  • Monsters live in their own places: they sleep, eat and stand guard. Catch them before they notice you for extra damage.

Progression

  • Bosses drop embers. Spend them to unlock weapon lines, moves, starting options and cosmetics.
  • Three difficulty tiers: Normal, Nightmare and Hell. Clear one to open the next.
  • Six playable characters and 30 achievements.

Early Access

The game is still in development. New areas, monsters and weapons will be added during Early Access.
